Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, in Lynn Massachusetts. She is the eldest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. As a child, Ruth Roman's carnival-barker father passed away in a tragic way, which made her mother Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as a waitress or cleaner so that they could survive. Ruth attended the school in Boston's tenement region, which was the most deplorable. She quit school in just two short years to pursue acting. Her path wasn't without its challenges. In New York, her first job involved posing stills in crime magazines. the theatre work that she longed for was not available. The following job she got was an "hat check" lady at a club but she quit and relocated to Boston. In Boston, she worked to make ends meet with her ushering duties in the morning, while at night performing in the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. Also, she studied drama. She ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
